The Foundling Museum’s Collections are an exceptional resource to enrich teaching. Our exhibitions and displays make creative links across the centuries and offer an inspiring way to engage with our history.

Schools

We offer free entry to primary and secondary schools for self-led visits, with downloadable resources to accompany your trip.

Booking a self-led visit means you can explore the Museum and the story of the Foundling Hospital in your own time, and choose your own itinerary.

Children are free whilst all additional adults are charged at our concessionary price of £9.50. You can choose to pay on arrival or request an invoice. Carers and support staff go free.

Please note we don’t currently offer facilitated school workshops.

Universities & Colleges

University and college groups can choose to book a self-led visit or a guided tour. Alternatively, specialist visits can also be arranged for music students to explore the Gerald Coke Handel Collection.

Guided tours

Our knowledgeable and friendly guides will take your students on a journey, telling the moving story of the Foundling Hospital, the UK’s first children’s charity and first public art gallery. Learn about the Museum’s many treasured objects and discover the stories behind our displays.

Duration: Approximately 1 hour
Number of people: 1-20
Cost: £6.50 per student/£9.50 per tutor or accompanying adult + £96.00 (includes VAT) for the guide

Please note temporary exhibitions and displays are included in the cost of admission. However, an annual pass is NOT included in a ticket booked as part of a tour group.

We recommend giving us at least three weeks’ notice of your intended visit date so that we can find an available guide for you.

Groups larger than 20 visitors must be staggered.

Self-led visits

Explore the Museum at your leisure with a self-led tour.

Number of people: 8-20
Cost: 8-20 visitors £6.50 per student/£9.50 per tutor or accompanying adult

Please note temporary exhibitions and displays are included in the cost of admission. However, an annual pass is NOT included in a ticket booked as part of a tour group.

Groups of eight people or more must book their visit in advance. Groups without an advance booking may be asked to wait until there is space to enter the Museum.

Please note groups of eight people or more qualify for the concessionary admission rate. Standard admission charges apply for groups of less than eight people.

Handel sessions

We welcome visits from students interested in aspects of our Gerald Coke Handel Collection including eighteenth-century music, music ephemera, bookbinding and conservation. Workshops and seminars use original source materials and can be tailored to meet the requirements of your course.
