The Foundling Museum sits in the heart of Bloomsbury, a cultural hub in central London. Here are a few suggestions of other places you can discover in the area, as part of your visit to this literary and historic quarter.

Food and drink

If you’re after coffee and cake or a sandwich, there are a selection of independent coffee shops like 49 Café and Fortitude Bakehouse within a short walk of the Museum.

One of London’s finest pubs The Lamb has close connections to the Foundling Hospital and offers Foundling Museum visitors 10% off* all food and drink, it’s on Lamb’s Conduit Street.

Leon in the Brunswick Centre also offer visitors a 15% discount (make sure you go to the counter to order rather than through the self order kiosk).

There’s also Pizza Sophia, WC Wine & Charcuterie and Honey & Co if you’re after an early evening meal. Alternatively, make your way to the nearby Brunswick Centre where there are plenty of high street names offering a wide range of food options.

Other museums and galleries

Just a 10-minute walk from the Museum you’ll find the Charles Dickens Museum and the Postal Museum.

Other museums in Bloomsbury and the Kings Cross area, within a 15-minute walk, include the British Museum, London Canal Museum, Sir John Soane’s Museum, the British Library and the Wellcome Collection, plus University College London’s Grant Museum of Zoology and Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology.

Slightly further away (but only a 25-minute walk) there’s the Cartoon Museum.

Bookshops

If you want to experience a literary submersion head to Skoobs for a pre-used book or Gay’s the Word, who often put on events.

Sunshine or rain

On sunny days don’t forget to walk through Brunswick Square Gardens, Russell Square or St George’s Gardens. For those of you with children Coram’s Fields is one of the best playgrounds in central London. If it’s raining then check out what’s on at the Curzon Cinema, Bloomsbury.

You can also explore artist John Aldus’s installation on Marchmont Street. Using the Smartify app, find the tokens embedded on the pavement and learn more about the stories behind these objects.
