Make your own personalised soap in this creative family workshop.

Discover how to make beautifully fragrant handmade soaps with artist Emmerline Smy. Choose from a range of scents, textures, and colours to create unique soaps that are personal to you. At the end of the session you’ll get to take them home to enjoy or gift them to a loved one.

There are two sessions running from 11am-1pm and 2-4pm. The workshop is suitable for 5-12 year-olds. Dress for mess!

What’s included with my ticket?

Led by a professional artist with all materials provided, all you have to do is bring yourselves! We advise dressing for a mess as this workshop will involve the use of glue. Tickets also include free entry to the Museum so you can explore at your leisure.

Emmerline Smy works in art, craft, and creative learning under one unified practice. With a background in historic preservation and over a decade of teaching experience, she draws on history, decorative arts and material culture to inspire hands-on workshops in beadwork, ceramics, mixed media, and design. Her work explores the connections between objects, stories, and cultural history, encouraging participants to create with meaning and curiosity.

Yes, booking is essential. We encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment as our workshops often sell out.

Yes, you must book an adult ticket and a child ticket to gain entry to the workshop. Adults are welcome to also get stuck into the activities.

No, the workshops start promptly at 11am and 2pm and run for the full two hours.

No, children must be accompanied by an adult, no child can be left unattended.

Of course. If you’re attending with an older child, please feel free to bring your baby along, either held or in a pram.

The soaps will be made with an SLS-free, high glycerin soap base, a range of skin-safe essential oils, optional oatmeal, dried rose petals and dried lavender, and optional PCD grade (Personal Care Dye) colour dyes. For information about specific allergens, please contact us.
