A display of rare documents that related to Handel’s masterpiece, the opera Giulio Cesare.

One of Handel’s masterpieces, the opera Giulio Cesare, was composed and first performed in 1724. To celebrate diverse productions of the opera in 2018, we displayed the autograph manuscript on loan from the British Library, alongside the libretto from the first performance. On show were early manuscripts and prints, as well as photographs and programmes relating to the opera’s history from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century.
