Following workshops at the Museum, nine Scene & Heard Member Playwrights were inspired by objects and artefacts to create original characters which featured in a relay play. The play was then performed by professional actors at Theatro Technis. A short documentary film about the process formed an installation at the Museum and can be viewed on Scene & Heard’s website here.
Scene & Heard’s course Writeback is designed to introduce our Member Playwrights to a new working environment, inviting them to be inspired both by their surroundings and by each other. The writing element of each course takes place at a different member of The Knowledge Quarter, an umbrella organisation that brings together cultural, academic, scientific and business institutions around King’s Cross.
Scene & Heard is a unique mentoring project that partners the inner-city children of Somers Town, London with volunteer theatre professionals. They give the children intensive, one-to-one adult attention, enabling them to write plays which are then performed by professional actors. Their performances give the children immediate and public experiences of success, raising their aspirations and boosting their self-esteem. Scene & Heard’s work improves literacy skills, attitudes towards education, and develops communication and social skills.
