Join us for a storytelling adventure with the Zoffany Ensemble.

Featuring national treasure Paddington Bear and magical Prince Prospero, discover how music can spark the imagination at this special children’s concert.

Two very different worlds collide in this musical programme, allowing kids to discover for themselves how music can spark the imagination. First, we’ll step into the spooky world of André Caplet’s Conte Fantastique, after Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death, and explore the power of music to evoke big emotions. Then, we’ll meet Paddington Bear, accompanied by warm, playful music that celebrates kindness, curiosity and small adventures.

The concert will be narrated by documentary-maker and friend of the Foundling Museum, Helena Korner, and will be accompanied by a creative family workshop.

Repertoire:

André Caplet – Conte Fantastique after Edgar Allan Poe’s The Masque of the Red Death for harp and string quartet (1922)

Herbert Chappell – Paddington Bear’s First Concert (1984) arr. Roger Montgomery

This event is aimed at children aged 5 – 12, but the whole family is invited! The concert will last around an hour.

The Zoffany Ensemble is led by Manon Derome who, along with harp player Hugh Webb, recorded the original score for three films in the Paddington franchise. Other players joining Manon and Hugh for this concert include Michael Trainor (violin), Sarah-Jane Bradley (viola) and Anthony Pleeth (cello).

Helena Korner is a television documentary producer, spanning politics, history, medicine and culture for the BBC, Netflix, and National Geographic among other broadcasters. She is also an art therapist in training, passionate about the power of the arts in education, and their ability to promote connection, communication and wellbeing. She currently works with cancer patients and their families. Helena has grown up with the Foundling Museum since she was a child. She is inspired by the Foundling’s history and mission rooted in music and the arts, and admires how through this creative and compassionate approach, the Foundling has contributed life-changing support to individuals and families, as well as to impactful social change.

This event is aimed at children aged 5 to 12 years, but the whole family is welcome. The concert will have a very relaxed atmosphere, so even the wriggliest kids will be able to enjoy the magic of music!
