We commissioned social enterprise London Reclaimed to make new tables for the Foundling Museum Café.
London Reclaimed is a bespoke furniture and employment charity, that trains young people to create furniture from reclaimed timber.
They work with 16-25 year-olds from South East London, who are enrolled into an intensive year-long programme, providing carpentry training and mentoring. Their aim is to support these young people through their first job and enable them to move on to further employment or training. This ethos of sustainability flows through into their woodwork. By using reclaimed timber, they extend the life-cycle of wood, often hundreds of years old, grown before the age of mass production.
The Foundling Museum is delighted to support their work, by commissioning a suite of tables for our Café. They share our commitment to aid and inspire young people to make a positive contribution to society.
