It’s an absolute joy to tell you that we’ve been awarded much needed funding from the Cultural Recovery Fund
This hugely welcome funding will not only ensure the museum can re-open in May with confidence and a strengthened offer, it will also generate work for freelance artists, illustrators, writers and musicians, and new programmes designed to support the wellbeing of local residents and families.
Caro Howell, Director
Over the past year the museum has been closed for long periods due to national and local lockdowns. Time that we couldn’t support our education, exhibition and outreach work through the income we usually generate from admissions, tours, on-site events, retail and venue hire.
Thanks to the funding we received from The Department for Media, Culture and Sport’s Cultural Recovery Fund, we’ve been able to continue to protect our historic collections and work for and in our local community. The funding has also enabled us to make vital investment in understanding our audience needs and planning for them, looking at how we engaged with you digitally and what we needed to do to improve that experience, and ensured that our team are prepared for the day (soon) when we are able to re-open our doors to welcome you all again.
With an unprecedented investment through the Culture Recovery Fund, the government is #HereForCulture so it can weather the storm of coronavirus and come back stronger and they have extended their support to our work through this second stage of funding. This additional funding will help us to rebuild our profile after this extended period of closure, to share new stories about our token collection, continue to work in our local community, and to work with GP’s to create an innovative programme of social prescribing.
It’s brilliant that the Foundling Museum has received this money so it can continue working with new work when we need it most.
Jeremy Deller, Trustee
#HereForCulture is a movement that unites the public, government and cultural organisations in support of our fantastic cinemas, theatres, music venues, museums, galleries and heritage. And today we’re proud to say that we’re #HereForCulture. Culture creates jobs, supports livelihoods, and brings joy to everyone. The UK leads the world in the creative industries and we can all feel pride in that.
The Foundling Museum is thrilled to receive this very welcome Culture Recovery Fund grant, and it could not have come at a better time. Not only does this help us keep the engine of the Museum running, and ensure we can continue to support artists, but it means that we can continue to do the vital work we do with care leavers and early years children from the local Camden community, with all the challenges they are facing at the moment.
