Handel at Vauxhall

This summer the Gerald Coke Handel Collection will display a recently-acquired model of Roubiliac’s statue of Handel for Vauxhall Gardens, alongside related items from their Collection.

The bronze model forms part of an in-focus case entitled Handel at Vauxhall, which will temporarily replace the Gallery’s display relating to Handel’s Messiah. The Gerald Coke Handel Collection is an internationally-important collection of material relating to Handel and his contemporaries, including manuscripts, printed music and books, libretti, artworks and ephemera.

Several items from their Collection can also be seen elsewhere this year: Roubiliac’s terracotta modello for the Westminster Abbey Handel monument is among items on loan for the exhibition Handel at Boughton, at Boughton House, Northamptonshire and several works will be displayed as part of The Weird and the Wonderful: Entertaining Polite Georgian Society, at Fairfax House in York.
