Gerald Coke Handel Collection Librarians win Excellence Award

Gerald Coke Handel Collection Librarians win Excellence Award

Our Gerald Coke Handel Collection Librarians have been awarded the Excellence Award for Music Libraries from the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (IAML).

Cited by the award panel as ‘a very special library, continually developing and reaching out to scholars’, the Gerald Coke Handel Collection houses a plethora of eighteenth-century music, books, manuscripts, periodicals, artworks and ephemera relating to Handel and his contemporaries. Open for research from Wednesday to Friday by appointment, the library contains a collection of international importance. As an ‘example of how a highly-specialised collection can be made accessible to a broad range of visitors and researchers’ with ‘highly professional staff’, it was noted by the IAML for its collaborations with other institutions, such as the London Handel Festival, and the production of their annual Handbook for Studies in Eighteenth-Century English Music.

In addition to winning this award, Gerald Coke Handel Collection Librarian, Katharine Hogg has also been elected President of the UK & Ireland branch of IAML.

The Gerald Coke Handel Collection reading room is open Wednesday – Friday for research by appointment. For all enquiries call +44 (0)20 7841 3606 or email handel@foundlingmuseum.org.uk
