Students and lecturers from the BA Jewellery Design course at Central Saint Martins created new work in response to the Museum’s Collections.

Using the Museum Collections and Founding Hospital archives as inspiration, eight students and three lecturers from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, created jewellery in response to our story. Each maker produced a creative response that expressed the conflicting feelings the Collections elicit – of abandonment and belonging, uniformity and individuality, the loss of identity and the chance for a new life.

Their contemporary responses were exhibited in Finding, a display in the Museum’s permanent galleries. Drawing upon their research and experience, the students also developed and delivered to two workshops for secondary school students in Camden. This unique project gave staff and students an opportunity to exhibit alongside one another, and encouraged undergraduates to communicate their ideas to school students.
