Hear about children’s experiences in temporary housing and find out how you can make a difference
Hear about children’s experiences in temporary housing and find out how you can make a difference.
14:00 | Free with Museum admission (includes refreshments)
As part of The Foundling Museum’s Bedrooms of London exhibition, this talk is an opportunity to hear from young people speaking out and standing up for children’s rights to adequate housing. Many have lived in temporary accommodation, such as bed and breakfasts, sometimes for months on end and often in dirty, cold, overcrowded and unsafe conditions. Speakers include the developer and organiser of the ChangeIt! campaign, who was inspired by experiencing poor housing conditions herself when younger. She was involved in presenting the case on fulfilling the legal rights of children to MPs. Additionally, younger speakers will talk from their own experience about the impact of poor housing conditions. This talk will also show you how you can support their campaign. A special video made for the campaign will also be screened as part of the event.
The ChangeIt! Campaign, supported by the Children’s Rights Alliance for England (CRAE), is led by young activists who want to make a change. See their latest report, ‘Children speak out on homelessness’.
