Join harpsichordist Bridget Cunningham, the artistic director of London Early Opera, to see her perform a recital of music taken from Handel’s magnificent Eight Great Harpsichord Suites and the aria and ouverture arrangements including keyboard music from Muzio Scevola HWV 13.
Cunningham displays virtuosity, wonderful embellishments and reveals the song-like beauty of the harpsichord and champions the view that Handel’s exquisite keyboard writing demands more recognition as he was widely admired as a harpsichordist and organist throughout his lifetime and composed, taught, improvised, arranged and directed the opera from the harpsichord. Handel’s keyboard writing reflects his mastery of the keyboard, passion for the voice and rich glorious orchestral colours all of which feature strongly in Cunningham’s performances.
Bridget Cunningham is a prizewinning harpsichordist and conductor who trained at the Royal College of Music where she was awarded a Fellowship. She is launching a new album with Signum Classics of Handel’s Eight Great Harpsichord Suites with the Chaconne in G and world premiere recordings of overture and aria arrangements to celebrate last year’s 300th anniversary of these monumental Suites de Pieces pour le Clavecin.
