As part of our exhibition Quentin Blake: Gifted, we asked writers to set words to his images, reversing Blake’s usual process by getting the poets responding to his drawings.

In this interview, we chat with one of the writers, the hugely talented Sharan Hunjan of 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE, about her inspirations, working process, and involvement with our exhibition.

Sharan Hunjan is part of 4 BROWN GIRLS WHO WRITE, a poetry collective made up of the hugely talented writers Roshni Goyate, Sharan Hunjan, Sheena Patel and Sunnah Khan, who bring their radical, polyphonic performance style to poetry. Sharan is interested in the poetics of language, post-colonialism and race.

For our exhibition, she was inspired to write by Blakes’s Children with birds & dogs #11.
