The Anern Trio and Guthrie Luke perform works by composers who took inspiration from Handel

15:00, free with Museum admission

Composers have long drawn inspiration from the music of the past. The Anern Trio and Guthrie Luke perform Handel-inspired works by Beethoven and Halvorsen in this afternoon concert, including Beethoven’s own string arrangement of his wildly popular Quintet for Piano and Wind op.16. The Anern Trio was formed in 2014, combining emerging and experienced performers, and have performed at venues throughout London and the south of England. Guthrie Luke was taught in New York by Isidore Phillip, a great friend of the composer Camille Saint-Saëns, before emigrating to Europe where he specialises in chamber music performing throughout the continent.

Programme:

12 Variations on a theme from Judas Maccabeus WoO45, Ludwig van Beethoven (1778-1827)

Piano Quartet in E flat major op.16, Ludwig van Beethoven (1778-1827)

Passacaglia for Violin and Viola, Johan Halvorsen (1864-1935)

Intermezzo: Allegretto for String Trio, Zoltán Kodály (1882-1967)
